“Kalenna,” Jericho said as he and Ivan approached Gavin and I during breakfast the next morning.

“Yeah?” I asked.

“Were you one of the girls who were put under?” he asked with a look of shock on his face.

“How did you know about that?” Gavin asked.

“All girls from Stalwart, Altruistic, and Quixotic were! Everyone is talking about it,” Jericho said.

“What are they saying?” I asked.

“That all girls were put under to try and coerce the truth out of them. I guess they said they got put under and most of them woke up to the doctor saying they did a good job, whatever that means,” Jericho said.

“Not only that, but I guess the warden himself has been interviewing some of the girls today,” Ivan said.

“The warden is personally interviewing the girls? Why would he waste his time with something like that? Doesn’t he have employees for those purposes?” Gavin asked.

“I guess the president is probably putting pressure on him, especially after that announcement on TV,” Ivan said. “President Green probably wants him to put a stop to it himself to save further embarrassment for the nation.”

“I’m sure you’re safe, though. We all know you aren’t the mole,” Jericho said.

“Thanks. I just hope everybody else, including the warden, knows that. Maybe the tournament will help my case,” I said.

“That reminds me, did you want to try to train today?” Gavin asked me.

“Train?” Jericho asked as he chomped on his piece of sausage.

“We’re trying to get Kalenna to win the tournament in the war room to win a trip home,” Gavin said.

“But we’re also trying to get it for Gavin, too. I want him to try,” I said.

“If you need help training, I can help you,” Jericho said.

“You can?” I asked.

“Sure, why not?” Jericho said.

“I thought you said you weren’t good with the staff. The tournament will be using the staff exclusively,” Gavin said.

“Yeah, I’m not, but I know power. Kal is going to need to know a variety of stances, techniques, and forms to generate the most force with each swing. I saw her against Trace, and no offense, but you’re weak,” Jericho said.

“Well, thanks,” I replied sarcastically.

“I just mean that you don’t have any form. You were swinging the staff around like it was a propeller and you were going to take off. You need to feel the power from within and go with it,” Jericho said.

“Speaking of the tournament, I can be of assistance as well,” Ivan said.

“You can? You aren’t in our class, though,” Gavin said.

“Yes, but I can still help. I know Mr. Weibel will let us train together in the room if we ask. My brother won the tournament a couple years ago and I could try to cash in on that,” Ivan said.

“What are you going to help with, though? Not saying you’re not a tough little guy, but come on,” Jericho said.

“Just because I’m not a hulking buffoon like some people,” he said as he looked over at Jericho, “doesn’t mean I won’t be of any assistance.
